Mr. Marcus Lau

With over five years of diverse teaching experiences in Hong Kong and Canada, Mr. Lau brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Pattison High School. He holds a BA in English Language and Literature and a BEd in Education, both earned with First Class Honours. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Lau represented his university at international Model United Nations conferences in Geneva, where he received a Diplomacy Award. He was also a pioneer in the Inclusion Ambassador Programme, promoting diversity and inclusion on campus.

Mr. Lau’s commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as he volunteered to teach English in Budapest, Hungary, for three months. He also broadened his educational perspectives through a summer exchange program in Brisbane, Australia.

Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Mr. Lau taught at two high schools in Hong Kong, specializing in support for English Language Learners (ELLs) and leading a student support team to assist learners with diverse educational needs. His leadership skills were further showcased as he organized various student leadership development activities.

Continuing his educational journey, Mr. Lau pursued an MEd in Special Education at The University of British Columbia, focusing on inclusive education. During this time, he instructed seminars for teacher candidates in the Teacher Education Programme and was nominated for the “Faculty of Education Graduate Teaching Award” for the 2023-2024 academic year. He is a firm believer in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where all students feel valued and supported. He advocates for open-mindedness and collaboration within his learning community.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Lau enjoys Muay Thai, hiking, listening to audiobooks, and has recently taken up pottery.

At Pattison High School, Mr. Lau will be teaching Literary Studies 10, English First Peoples 12, Career Life Education, and Physical and Health Education. His dynamic approach and dedication to fostering inclusive educational environments will enrich the experiences of his students.
