With a background in performance, production, and music education, Mr. Austrom brings creativity, professionalism, and real-world experience to his teaching at Pattison High School. He joined the Pattison community in 2025 as a substitute and is in his first year of traditional teaching, where he teaches Music 10.
Mr. Austrom is a professional trumpeter, music producer, and DJ with performance experience across British Columbia and the Midwest of the United States. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, he moved to Vancouver in 2012 to pursue his studies in music at the University of British Columbia, where he completed his bachelor’s degree.
Outside of Pattison High School, Mr. Austrom is an active professional musician, performing, producing, and collaborating across a wide range of musical styles.
Passionate about music as both an art form and a skill, Mr. Austrom strives to help students build confidence, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for music through hands-on learning and performance-based experiences.
Outside of music, he enjoys spending time traveling with his wife Lydia, exploring the great outdoors and is an avid skier. His approachable teaching style, diverse musical background, and enthusiasm for creative expression make him a valued member of the Pattison High School community.
